A Day Trip to Luxembourg City
Luxembourg is known for being one of the smallest countries in Europe - but it definitely packs enough charm to compete with any of its bigger siblings.
Since I had been to Paris before, I wanted to tack on a day trip outside of the city to widen my horizons and all that. Luxembourg was perfect choice - just around 3 hours on the train, fairly inexpensive, and a whole ‘nother country to check off another for my #30by30.
Since I only really spent one day there, I’ll keep this post brief and give you my highlights and tips. If you wanna know more, drop a comment (or go follow me on Instagram and shoot me a DM, I’m basically on there 24/7!)
I booked the train tickets on Oui before our trip. They were pretty inexpensive and gave you seat assignments and mobile boarding passes. The train was comfy, had wifi, a meal/bar cart, and views in the outskirts of France were a beeeeeaut!
The Bock Casemates (don’t ask me what it is exactly, I’m still unsure) is a huge tourist attraction, but we found that we could walk from the top to the bottom of the seemingly sunken city pretty easily. The rock cliffs against the centuries old buildings are a sight to see alone.
We stopped for lunch at Brauerei which was… delicious and bizarre. The whole restaurant almost looks like a big chain restaurant meant to be designed like an old brewery but it just is an old brewery, old steam machine from 1927 and all. I had this insane pork knuckle dish which was huge and drool worthy - check the pic below if you don’t believe me.
There was a surprising amount of outdoor mall-esq shopping avenues in the more modern part of the city. We wandered into Pâtisserie Hoffmann, which had these amazing desserts we didn’t know we needed, and moseyed around the stores.
The best part about the city was how easy it was to walk and get lost. I realize that’s a hella cliché ““tip””, but this is a smaller-than-usual country! Getting lost and wandering about the city was a great way experience it, even in the rain.
